My name is Ruth Yu, and I was born and raised in Vancouver. I recently graduated from UBC Biomedical Engineering and will be starting my master’s degree at UBC focusing on developing a microfluidic-assisted method for analyzing the spatial genomics of rare cancer cell populations. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, running, and playing badminton. Having been on the 2021/22 team, I am excited to return and support partnership efforts for CUBEC 2025/26.
Jessica is currently a 4th year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Calgary completing a 16-month internship as a Development Engineering Intern. She was previously the Co-President of the Biomedical Engineering Students’ Society at the University of Calgary in the 2023-2024 academic year. During her term, she was involved in the first CUBEC conference to be hosted in Calgary which helped initiate the future collaboration in Calgary between biomedical engineering groups across Canada. Her passion for biomedical engineering has been further nurtured through her involvement on the CUBEC executive team.
Emma is a fourth-year bioengineering student at McGill University, currently working in a research lab developing an incubator to support vascular flow models in microgravity. She is passionate about space and women’s health, with a focus on innovative solutions that promote accessible healthcare. In 2024, she joined CUBEC as the VP Logistics, leading the planning for the 2025 conference. Now as the Operations Director, she remains driven to create inclusive opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and grow within the biomedical engineering field.
Adi graduated from Bioengineering at McGill, before continuing his Master’s at McGill studying the evolution of drusen in the eye. He has been the Financial Director of CUBEC for the past two years, where he significantly expanded the organization’s financial capacity and reach. He joined the CUBEC Board of Directors in 2025 to support meaningful changes across the biomedical engineering landscape in Canada, with a focus on sustainable growth, national collaboration, and student empowerment.
Sara is currently completing her internship term at Circle Cardiovascular Imaging as a 4th year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Calgary. She is passionate about innovations to improve healthcare and sharing the contributions of biomedical engineering. As Co-VP of Events for CUBEC, she hopes to showcase biomedical opportunities to inspire others and motivate networking and learning.
CUBEC hosted the second in-person conference, bringing together 700 attendees in 4 cities, including an expansion to Vancouver. We hosted smaller scale events at McMaster, Waterloo and McGill.
